Welcome to the Renfrew Presbytery!
What is the Renfrew Presbytery of the United Church of Canada?
Presbytery is one of the four courts
in the conciliar structure of the United Church of Canada:
the courts being those of the local congregation or Pastoral Charge,
the Presbytery, the Conference, and the General Council.
Renfrew Presbytery is one of the 90 Presbyteries in the
United Church of Canada
Renfrew Presbytery is made up of about forty local congregations.
In theory, each congregation is a pastoral charge with its own clergy.
Since some of the smaller congregations share the services of a clergy,
the number of pastoral charges is about twenty-eight.
Renfrew Presbytery, along with six others,
- Belleville,
- Cobourg,
- Kingston,
- Lindsay,
- Peterborough, and
- Oshawa,
constitute the Bay of Quinte Conference.
The Bay of Quinte Conference
is one of the 13 Conferences across the country
of the United Church of Canada,
which is the publisher of the United Church Observer
and the sponsor of the Wondercafé, the home of open-minded discussion
and exploration of spiritual topics, moral issues and life's big questions.
